Cumberland Fish Bar
About This Spot
Step into Cumberland Fish Bar, and you’re met with the warm buzz of a neighborhood spot where familiar faces might share a table and the air carries the comforting scent of batter frying. Nestled on Cumberland Street in Woodbridge, this modest fish & chips restaurant offers a lively yet unpretentious atmosphere that invites you to settle in and enjoy a casual meal at your own pace.
The space itself feels snug and bustling, especially when the lunchtime or early evening crowd gathers. It’s a place where hearty portions arrive promptly, plates piled with golden chips and flaky, freshly battered fish, alongside unexpected delights like vibrant veggie burgers or classic saveloys. The simplicity of the setting — a small dining area with a few outdoor tables — creates a sense of intimacy, though it can get lively and noisy as conversations overlap and the friendly chatter ebbs and flows. Sometimes, this closeness extends to sharing your eating space with the neighbors of the adjacent bar, enhancing the feeling of being part of the local fabric, though it’s worth noting that outdoor seating can feel a bit squeezed.
More than just fish and chips, Cumberland Fish Bar embraces a spirit of approachable variety, offering everything from battered sausages to comforting pies, allowing each visit to feel a little different. Whether you’re here with family grabbing generous kid-friendly portions or dropping in for a quick bite accompanied by a cold beer or a well-chosen glass of wine, the team’s welcoming warmth makes it feel like you’re dropping by an old friend’s well-loved neighborhood gem.
This is a place where you come as you are — whether hungry after a stroll through town or in need of a relaxed setting to catch up with friends over good, honest food. The atmosphere, with its mix of quick service and a convivial hum, resonates with the uncomplicated joy of sharing a meal that’s as satisfying as it is familiar.

Very tasty chips and battered sausage, veggie burger was good also. Quick service. Eating space outside was a bit limited and seemingly shared with a bar as an older guy was sitting out chain smoking on one of the tables, which was less pleasant. Not really parking in front of it unless it's Sunday basically.

This place has great food, great prices and a great atmosphere. We had a table reserved for us as it does get very busy. We ordered childrens portions and they were big portions so glad I didnt order an adults portion. Staff are very welcoming and happy! This place is a little gem in Woodbridge and we will definitely be going to again. They have a licenced bar so you can enjoy a cocktail or and alcoholic beverage of your choice with your dinner. Its also dog friendly and they have dog treats and a water bowel ready for your furbabies to accompany you to dinner.

Currently on holiday and googled places to eat. This came up and we had an evening meal. The service was good and the food was excellent. The prices were reasonable as well. Thoroughly recommend if you like fish and chips

Probably the only place to have your fish and chips or chicken and chips and chinese food. Plus a nice bar too. Same owners as Wok It. Perfect for our mixed race household. Everyone is happy. Food has always been delicious and service very good.

We came here on a Sunday, sat in the restaurant side of the building. The lady who served us was really lovely and welcomed us in, the other staff on were really nice too! Came over and brought us glasses of water without even asking, its a nice touch. The menu is really great, lots of things for everyone. Two of us had the Plaice and chips, I had the Haddock and chips, all of us had mushy peas as well. The salad they brought over was fresh and crunchy. I believe we ordered the medium/ large portion and although looked as though it was going to be far too big, we all managed to finish. I have to say its the nicest fish and chips I have ever (and we have ever) had. If we lived closer this would be a regular spot for us but we live in Sheffield. But we will keep this in mind when we come down to Suffolk and Woodbridge again! Fab, highly recommend.
